ARPEL is a non-profit association gathering companies and institutions of the oil, gas and biofuels sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was founded in 1965 with the primary purpose of promoting industry integration and growth as well as seeking ways to maximize its contribution to sustainable energy development in the region. Its membership represents over 90% of the upstream and downstream activities in the region and includes national and international oil companies, companies providing technology, goods and services to the industry value chain, and other industry institutions.
Since 1976 ARPEL holds Special Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In 2006, the association declared its adherence to the 10 Global Compact principles.
