WEC joins ALADI, ARPEL, CEPAL, CIER, OEA and OLADE Project

October, 2011 –On occasion of the meeting convened by ALADI about “Latin America and the G20: building a space for dialogue”, ALADI, ARPEL, CEPAL, CIER & OEA, subscribed the Protocol for the incorporation of the World Energy Council (WEC) to their joint project “Sectoral Energy Report for Latin America and the Caribbean – Towards a New Energy Agenda”.

The Project consists on a deep diagnosis of the present status of the energy sector in the region from a systemic and integrated approach, considering not only the supply-demand balance, but also the perspectives of the regional energy matrix and all its social and environmental impacts. The intention of all the participating organizations is to take the first step towards the construction of an Energy Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean, establishing a regional and convergent vision about energy, society and climate, which will be the foundation of regional energy planning, considering integration, as one of the key variables for the security of supply.

In this event participated the Executive Secretary of ARPEL, César González; the Executive Secretary of CEPAL, Alicia Bárcena; the International Coordinator of CIER, Juan Carlos Belza; OAS Representative in Uruguay, John Biehl del Río, and the General Secretary of ALADI, Carlos Chacho Alvarez.

César González, Executive Secretary of ARPEL, highlighted the “great step of our institutions to understand in a better way the region´s energy challenges, through the development of a common vision, and energy alignment for Latin America and the Caribbean”.
