Pipelines and Terminals
Created on 2006
Given the importance to count with a group of reference for the excellence in the management, integrity and operational safety of pipelines and terminals, this Committee was created to promote and facilitate the management development in the operation of pipelines and terminals in the oil and natural gas industry.
Objectives
In the context of the pipelines and terminals management, the objectives are:
To share and develop best practices to accomplish excellence in the operational, social and environmentally responsible management To foster training and the implementation of new technologies *To exchange experiences and information among Member Companies and with other relevant institutions
Achievements
At its “creation” meeting (Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL – December/2006) the Pipelines and Terminals Committee defined the main lines of action in which it will conduct its operations: operations’ integrity, management, training, technology and society. Contribution to the 2007 and 2009 Rio Pipeline Conference and Exhibition, presenting the key issues to the regional industry regarding pipelines’ management. *First ARPEL Manual for pipelines physical integrity management.
Activities
The ARPEL Pipelines and Terminals Committee (PiTeCo) was established with the objective of fostering the sustainable development of pipelines and terminals management in the Region and of promoting the effective cooperation among ARPEL Member Companies. The Committee is focused in addressing –from its operational perspective- three areas of the ARPEL strategic focus: relations with communities, operational integrity, and eco-efficiency. It is participating in the development of a program to implement and improve the operations’ integrity and the relations with communities’ management systems of ARPEL Members. The PiTeCo is supporting the ARPEL Committees on Environment, Health and Safety, and Social Responsibility, that will lead the development of said programs at ARPEL level, respectively.
The Committee is also working in other relevant activities, as follows:
Development of a standard to check terminals’ management. Selection of management indicators for pipelines and terminals aiming at a future benchmarking within ARPEL. *Improvement of virtual interaction among Member Companies through the development of networks involving the Committee members and other specialists.
ARPEL Members presently participating of this Committee include: ANCAP, Chevron, ECOPETROL, ENAP, IBP, PCJ, PEMEX, PETROBRAS, PETROECUADOR, PETROPERU, RECOPE, Repsol YPF and YPFB.
