The ARPEL – IICA Handbook on Biofuels was published

Jointly developed by ARPEL (through its Biofuels Project Team) and the Interamerican Institute for Agricultural Cooperation (IICA for Spanish acronyms), this Handbook has the objective to document the best practices of production programs implementation and use of biofuels based on experience, the difficulties and achievements accomplished by the different countries. It includes all aspects that make up a sustainable biodiesel production, as well as many issues related to alcohol biofuel, considering all the production chain, from the agricultural stage to the distribution to the final consumer, inclusively. On the next months, ARPEL will complement the Handbook by attaching to it information exclusively related to alcohol biofuel.

New Human Resources and Knowledge Management Committeee

Last November 24th, the meeting for the creation of the Human Resources and Knowledge Management Committee was held in Santiago, Chile with the support of ENAP.
A first outline for the Committee’s action plan was agreed and the first executive board was elected.
ARPEL Communities Relations Management System
We are very pleased to announce that the final edition of the ARPEL Communities Relations Management System has been published in Spanish and English. This product was developed under the supervision and review of the ARPEL Social Responsibility Committee and the Project Team created for that purpose. The system is a management model that allows to define, apply and monitor compliance with the policies of insertion and engagement with communities and indigenous peoples. It is composed by the following documents: Conceptual Framework, Management System, Self-diagnosis Tool, Manual for the Application of Socio-environmental Regulatory Frameworks, Communities Involvement Manual , Indigenous Peoples Manual, Socio-environmental and Reputational Risk Management Manual, Communications & Reporting Manual, System and Manuals Training Toolkit, Indigenous Peoples Training Toolkit.
New ARPEL Executive Secretary

Last October 6, 2009, Mr. Cesar Gonzalez assumed his functions as the new ARPEL Executive Secretary.
Mr. Gonzalez Neuman is a Peruvian executive with wide international experience in petroleum services, energy and utilities. In Schlumberger held positions of President for Latin America and Director of Global Human Resources.
Successful ARPEL Seminar on Costs Management
On 2 October 2009, ARPEL held the Seminar on “Efficient use of resources and costs management in the oil and natural gas industry”.
Through a combination of plenary panels and technical round tables, leading companies and experts shared specific case studies with their experiences and lessons learned while implementing actions to manage costs amidst the global financial crisis that burst in 2008.
More than 100 professionals from the petroleum industry and its value chain participated in the event, which took place in Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA at YPF’s recently inaugurated headquarters in Puerto Madero neighborhood.
