ARPEL carried out the Webinar “Business cibersecurity, concepts and challenges”
The progress made in information technology and its irruption in the control systems of the facilities has generated a new scenario of vulnerabilities and potential threats for companies operating critical infrastructures.
Under the framework of the ARPEL project on cibersecurity, in July it was carried out the webinar “Business cibersecurity, concepts and challenges”, taught by Jeimy Cano (Distinguished Professor – Law School - GECTI - Universidad de los Andes). This activity was based on a survey conducted by ARPEL to senior executives of the industry, in order to know the perception of this important thematic in their companies. A report with the conclusions of the survey and the webinar will be launched soon. The record of the webinar is available on

Both activities were promoted by the Cibersecurity Working Group, which is composed of experts from ARPEL member companies such as: ANCAP, COGA, RECOPE, EQUION, PLUSPETROL, TECPETROL, ECOPETROL, PETROBRAS and YPF, and that was created whit the aim of sharing experiences, best management practices and new technologies applied in the world regarding the new challenges of cibersecurity. Besides, the Group seeks to raise awareness on cyber resilience, which consists not only in preventing or responding a cyber-attack, but also includes the ability to operate during this event, adapting and recovering from it.
On 18-19 October, in Buenos Aires, it will take place the Seminar "Industrial cyber-security in critical infrastructures in a technologically dependent and interconnected world”, organized by ARPEL with the support of OAS and the Industrial Cybersecurity Center (CCI).
The main objective of this seminar is to raise awareness on this increasingly important issue and to provide information on the current risks, share experiences and discuss new challenges. It also seeks to create a space for the exchange of ideas and information where the most recent management technologies, methodologies, systems and processes in relation to cybersecurity will be made known, with the purpose of reducing the vulnerability of the companies to cyber-attacks and build capacities for emergency response.
