Antamina Mining Company in Peru receives ARPEL training on Pipelines Integrity Management

  • The staff from operative and maintenance areas of Antamina Mining Company in Peru was trained by ARPEL instructors on Pipelines Integrity Management, during a course carried out in the company’s facilities.

    Through this course, the Association disseminates the knowledge and experience that consolidates in its field, adapted to the specific company´s needs, providing tools and best practices for the continuous improvement of its own management that guarantee the integrity of its transportation pipelines, to achieve the excellence in their environment, social and operative management.

    These were some of the main topics addressed during the training with the employees of Antamina: Description of pipelines integrity threats; Type of damages; Methods of inspection, prevention and control of integrity threats; Application and maintenance of pipeline coatings; Types of temporary repairs for pipelines with damages; and Risks reassessment and adjustment of action plans, amongst others.

    The course also included practices, such as: Recognition of external corrosion damages; Resistivity measurements and analysis of results; Verification and calibration of cathodic protection rectifier units; and Remaining strength determination in corroded areas, among others.

    The ARPEL Accreditation Program on Pipeline Integrity Management-whose courses are held since 2012, and is unique in the region- consists in 4 modules: I) External corrosion; II) Internal corrosion; III) Forces of nature, operational errors and actions by third parties; and IV) Evaluation of mechanical integrity and risk assessment.

    A new edition of Module III: “Forces of nature, operational errors and actions by third parties” will be held on next August 29 to September 3, in YPFB (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia).
