Professionals from Colombia, Nicaragua and El Salvador participated in course on oil spill response using the tool RETOS

  • February 2018. ARPEL carried out, for the first time together with SLOM (Sociedad Latinoamericana de Operadores de Monoboyas), a training on "Evaluation of Programs to Address Oil Spills" using the ARPEL Manual and the tool RETOS.

The course, held February 15-16 in Bogota, Colombia, was attended by professionals from Colombia, Nicaragua and El Salvador representing Equión, Ecopetrol, Ocensa, Varichem, Rosen, Recumar, Cocatram, Transpormar, Dimar, and the Port Maritime Authority-El Salvador.

RETOS (Readiness Evaluation/Excel Tool for Oil Spills) constitutes a unique assessment tool that provides guidance for operators in the oil and gas sector and governments to verify their own oil spill preparedness and response management.

Since its launch in 2011, RETOS has been and is being used with different objectives by more than 50 companies and governments in more than 50 countries around the world: North America, Central and South America; the Caribbean; Europe; Africa and Asia.

The training carried out together with SLOM had the objective of facilitating the development of skills to implement the use of RETOS in the assessment of oil spill response planning and readiness, and at the same time providing alternatives to move from basic management stages to levels of excellence.

RETOS is available in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, and can be downloaded free of charge by clicking here
