Repsol, Best Energy Company of the Year according to Platts

  • December 10, 2015. Repsol was recognized as “Best Energy Company of the Year" by the specialized agency Platts at the Global Energy Awards ceremony held in New York. It was selected from over 200 nominees from 25 countries.

The panel of judges, composed of experts from the energy sector, has valued the performance of the company and its ability to add value in a context marked by the significant drop in crude oil prices, as well as the transformative growth operation carried out with the acquisition of Talisman. The integration of the Canadian company has allowed Repsol to diversify its portfolio of assets and become one of the largest private oil companies in the world.

In addition, the prestigious International agency rewarded the success in the recovery of the value and the immediate monetization of the expropriated YPF. Repsol obtained a total of 6.3 billion dollars that it subsequently used to improve its portfolio with the above-mentioned acquisition of Talisman.

The CEO of Repsol, Josu Jon Imaz, who received the award granted to the company, emphasized, "In this year of transformation for Repsol, we have made the most of our strengths to lay the foundations for the coming decade. Therefore, this award makes us think that we are headed in the right direction and motivates us to continue working to achieve our goals."

For her part, the President of Platts, Imogen Dillon Hatcher, said that Repsol is a "brave, swift company, which is demonstrating its strategic sense and its ability to resist." In addition, Platts underlined that, since 1999, no company had won three awards in the same year.

This is the second consecutive year that Repsol has been selected as the best energy company by one of the most prestigious international publications, after winning the award granted by the magazine Petroleum Economist in 2014.

In addition, Repsol has been selected as the best company in Downstream, thanks to the quality and operational excellence of its industrial assets, and its Director General of Downstream, Maria Victoria Zingoni, won the "Rising Star of the Year Award" for her successful career and leadership within the company.

As regards the recognition of the downstream area, Platts considered the strength of the integrated business model of Repsol, the management of its refining system, which is unique in Europe and allows the five refineries of the company in Spain to operate as a single unit, its increased efficiency and the reduction of emissions. The investments made by Repsol in its refining system have allowed the company to achieve record refining margins and lead the sector in Europe.

On the other hand, Platts recognized Maria Victoria Zingoni, Director General of Downstream of the company, for her career, leadership and her key role in two of the most important milestones for Repsol in recent years: the recovery of the value of YPF and the process of integration of Talisman.
