ARPEL WEBINAR ON HOW TO MAINSTREAM GENDER PERSPECTIVE INTO THE CORPORATE STRATEGY WITH EXPERIENCES OF YPF, RECOPE AND UN WOMEN

  • A webinar entitled "Gender Equality: Good Business” was conducted in mid-June. Gender equality has become a central issue in corporate management which, in addition to being a human right, is good business, as stated by the UN Women program, the European Union and ILO: "Win-Win: Gender equality is good business."

The introduction to this issue was in charge of Ms. Teresa Pérez del Castillo, National Private Sector Specialist from Uruguay, Win-Win Program of UN Women. On behalf of the companies, Ms. Ericka Brenes Mora, Adviser to the Presidency and Coordinator of the Commission on Equality and Non-Discrimination of RECOPE, and Ms. Paola Argento, Leader of Diversity of YPF, were responsible for sharing their experiences.

The purpose of the webinar was to present the reasons for which mainstreaming the gender perspective is key for organizations and inspires companies to continue working on the topic.

On March 25, 2019, ARPEL signed the statement of support to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).The WEPs were launched in 2010 in partnership between UN Women and the Global Compact with the purpose of guiding the way toward best practices through the incorporation of the gender dimension in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.

In addition to being a useful guide for companies, the Principles address this issue in a transparent manner for all stakeholders.
