Arpel en 8th OPEC International Seminar en Austria

Arpel fue invitado a participar del 8th OPEC International Seminar, el cual tuvo lugar el 5 y 6 de julio en Viena, Austria.

El Seminario Internacional de la OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) es considerado uno de los principales eventos en la agenda energética mundial. Entre los participantes se encuentran los ministros de los países miembros de la OPEC y otras naciones productoras y consumidoras de energía, líderes de organizaciones intergubernamentales, directores ejecutivos de compañías petroleras nacionales e internacionales, además de otros líderes del sector, académicos y expertos en energía.

El Secretario Ejecutivo de Arpel, Carlos Garibaldi, fue parte de la mesa redonda de alto nivel sobre “El ritmo de las transiciones energéticas y las políticas de cambio climático”.

El panel estuvo conformado además por Majid Jafar, Chief Executive Officer de Crescent Petroleum; Bernard Looney, Group Chief Executive/CEO de BP; Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President and Group CEO de Petronas; Simon Stiell, UNFCCC Executive Secretary de Naciones Unidas, y Balaji Krishnamurthy, Vice President for Strategy & Sustainability de Chevron.

En su disertación, Garibaldi señaló que “no existe un escenario de demanda energética sujeto a descarbonización, por muy aspiracional que parezca, que excluya a los hidrocarburos de la matriz energética primaria. El petróleo y el gas constituyen hoy el 55% de la matriz energética primaria del mundo”.

“Una transición, por definición, no es un reemplazo abrupto. Esto implica coexistencia y complementariedad entre hidrocarburos y energías renovables”, dijo. Y agregó que las empresas socias de Arpel “ya están evolucionando en los vectores de transición, al descarbonizar sus operaciones e instalaciones y diversificar sus portafolios con energías renovables”.

“No existe una receta universal para la transición energética, ni siquiera regional. Para ser aceptado, sostenible y exitoso, el camino y el ritmo de cada transición deben ser justos en términos de las circunstancias y el punto de partida de cada país, al mismo tiempo que se pone a las personas en primer lugar para garantizar la equidad”, destacó Garibaldi durante su intervención en la última edición del OPEC International Seminar.
