Arpel presentó avances en materia de transparencia climática en II Cumbre Regional de Metano

A fines de julio en Lima, Perú, tuvo lugar la segunda Cumbre Regional de Metano de América Latina y el Caribe organizada por OLADE junto al Global Methane Hub, la Agencia Internacional de Energía, y el Ministerio de Energía y Minas de Perú.

Arpel fue parte de la agenda del evento, el cual reunió a representantes de gobiernos, organismos multilaterales, empresas del sector energético y de instituciones académicas para intercambiar experiencias y buenas prácticas orientadas al abordaje integral del metano en el sector de petróleo y gas.

En esta edición, Irene Alfaro, Directora Gerente Senior de Arpel, integró el panel sobre “Transparencia Climática”, en el que expuso los principales desafíos que enfrentan las empresas del sector hidrocarburos en la región para cumplir con los estándares internacionales de transparencia climática.

Entre ellos, destacó la fragmentación institucional y normativa, las limitaciones en los sistemas de monitoreo, reporte y verificación (MRV), el acceso restringido a financiamiento climático y la creciente presión regulatoria internacional.

Asimismo, compartió los avances concretos logrados por Arpel y sus empresas socias en la implementación de sistemas de reporte y monitoreo de emisiones de metano.

Entre los hitos más relevantes, mencionó que se cuadruplicó el número de empresas con inventarios de emisiones de nivel 3 -que incluyen mediciones directas y continuas-, y que más del 50% de las empresas ya cuentan con programas LDAR (Detección y Reparación de Fugas, por sus siglas en inglés) completamente implementados.

Además, casi se duplicó la cantidad de compañías con metas corporativas específicas de reducción de metano, y siete de ellas se han adherido a la iniciativa internacional OGMP 2.0 (Alianza para el Petróleo y el Gas Metano 2.0 del PNUMA).

El segundo día, Alfaro fue moderadora en el panel “Compromisos empresariales para reducir las emisiones de metano”, en el que representantes de empresas energéticas de la región compartieron sus compromisos voluntarios, casos de éxito y mecanismos de colaboración público-privada.
