Informe Ejecutivo Arpel sobre Cambio Climático: COP29 Bakú

Este Informe Ejecutivo elaborado por Arpel resume las principales conclusiones de la 29° Conferencia de las Partes de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático, COP29, la cual tuvo lugar del 11 al 22 de noviembre de 2024 en Bakú, Azerbaiyán.

El documento fue realizado con la colaboración de profesionales de las empresas socias de Arpel: Ancap, Chevron, Ecopetrol, EP Petroecuador, GeoPark, Pan American Energy, Petrobras, Raízen y TEMA.

La coordinación estuvo a cargo de Irene Alfaro, Directora Gerente Senior de Arpel.

Como conclusión del Informe los autores expresan:

La COP29 avanzó en materia de financiamiento climático y mercados de carbono, pero persisten tensiones políticas.

El Nuevo Objetivo Colectivo Cuantificado (NCQG) de USD 300.000 millones anuales para 2035 es un paso importante, aunque insuficiente, requiriendo mayor movilización de fondos públicos y privados.

La operatividad plena de los mercados de carbono bajo el Artículo 6 del Acuerdo de París ofrece oportunidades para reducir costos de implementación de NDC y atraer inversiones. Sin embargo, no hay consenso total en torno a la transición justa y a la eliminación progresiva de combustibles fósiles.

La Declaración sobre Reducción de Metano destaca la importancia de abordar emisiones en sectores clave, incluyendo petróleo y gas.

La industria hidrocarburífera, como pilar en la transición energética, debe continuar diversificando su matriz, mitigando emisiones y promoviendo diálogos inclusivos para alcanzar metas climáticas globales de manera sostenible y equitativa.
