Seguridad basada en datos con PAE y el Instituto para una Cultura de Seguridad

El Comité de Ambiente, Salud y Seguridad de Arpel organizó en conjunto con el Instituto para una Cultura de Seguridad (ICSI) un webinar sobre “Safety Intelligence”: Seguridad basada en datos, el cual contó con la participación especial de PAE.

La presentación de Diego Turjanski, Branch Manager de ICSI Latam, introdujo el concepto de Safety Intelligence, inspirado en la lógica de la epidemiología: así como esta disciplina obtiene información valiosa gracias a su enfoque poblacional, la seguridad puede beneficiarse de un análisis sistemático y basado en datos.

La Safety Intelligence tiene dos grandes campos de aplicación: uno orientado a ayudar al operador de primera línea mediante tecnologías como anteojos inteligentes, sensores de proximidad o herramientas de IA; y otro enfocado en apoyar al gestor del sistema, con análisis de clusters, precursores y videoanalytics.

Se subrayó que el mayor déficit de conocimiento se encuentra en este segundo campo, por lo que resulta clave definir, con base empírica, cuáles son los eventos que realmente contribuyen a accidentes graves y no limitarse a medir indicadores de alta frecuencia sin valor predictivo.

Se describieron 3 niveles de adquisición de datos: accidentes graves, eventos de alta energía y precursores, y los desafíos asociados a cada uno.

El análisis experto es crucial para construir modelos válidos, ya que la seguridad no es un problema homogéneo ni automatizable en su totalidad. El objetivo último del enfoque es reducir la incertidumbre: entender qué categorías concentran la mayor probabilidad de accidentes graves permite priorizar recursos y tomar decisiones informadas, incluso si no se cuenta con certezas absolutas.

Luego de esta primera parte teórica, Sergio Fernández, Gerente Ejecutivo de Seguridad y Gestión de Riesgos de Pan American Energy, explico cómo están usando Safety Intelligence en las operaciones de PAE para evitar accidentes, y en particular accidentes graves.
